< 1 min to read

The new Horizon Europe project COGNIMAN supports the European manufacturing industry in automating several production processes that would lead to more efficient and flexible manufacturing. The project kick-off meeting was held on 26 and 27 January 2023 at the NORCE facility in Kristiansand, Norway. NORCE is also leading the project. Sixteen partners from seven countries are working together until the end of 2026.

COGNIMAN is an initiative to boost smart manufacturing through key technologies like simulations, digital twins, advanced sensors, machine learning and cognitive robotics. It aims to make manufacturing processes more flexible, safe and sustainable while enhancing Europe’s competitiveness in global markets and reducing environmental impact.

Pilots

The project identified four pilots which will serve as a starting point:

  • Glass fibre production
  • Precision machining
  • Additive manufacturing of medical implants
  • Flexible manufacturing

Over the next four years, the project aims to develop solutions for these use cases.

Impact

COGNIMAN will not only drive the advancement of smart manufacturing through the integration of cutting-edge technologies but also develop a comprehensive modular toolbox. This toolbox will consolidate these innovative solutions, enabling widespread adoption across diverse industries.

By sharing these insights and learnings, COGNIMAN aims to catalyse progress and facilitate the application of these advancements in other relevant sectors, paving the way for future growth and development.

The second partner meeting will take place in June 2023.
